My First Yoga Teacher Training: Starting in the deep end

For my first experience in any yoga teacher training course, I really threw myself into the deep end. My normal mind and body were in a different wave length in a 4 day course that is partly yoga and partly full on call the midwife. Yep, I decided to do a  pregnancy yoga teacher training. The first day, I was scared and went home feeling I may have made the biggest mistake of my life and got all my interests wrong, but the next three days quickly turned into the best decision ever, which is good as there really is no turning back now! 😉

Over the course of 4 days, I got to hear so many insights from a wonderful group of women on both pregnancy and the yoga world in general. It made me ask myself so many questions about my path forward. It just reaffirmed my decisions and the journey ahead. My mind and body were in a different world during the training. I was absorbing knowledge of biology, parenthood and balancing yoga with pregnancy. As someone who doesn’t have kids (and no my cats really can’t be compared in this situation), I had a lot to take in. What is wonderful about pregnancy yoga is that all the focus and energy is on someone else, which is refreshing. Your energy is on the mother. Whereas when you do vinyasa teacher training I think there will always be a little bit of your own practice in your teaching. After the 4 days, I definitely needed to go to a strong flow yoga class, to get me back a little and out of the pregnancy yoga bubble. As 4 days of full on anatomy, exercises and discussions was a lot to take in. But already excited for the road ahead to help guide pregnant women.

Another bit of magic was that the training helped me focus more on my yoga path and narrowing down a path. There are so many yoga workshops, classes, trainings etc. out there. I now have a clearer vision of what I enjoy and don’t enjoy. My creative juices were also in full force. So ideas are flying all around me. Not to mention, I realized I have a ‘yoga voice’ when teaching. Love discovering all these little things.

After the training, I returned to work for my last days in office. More sure than ever that I am heading in the right direction. As a goodbye gift they made me a yoga mat with one of my favorite quotes. Yoga is not about touching your toes, it is what you learn on the way down. Yep, so much more learning on the way. In the meantime, I’m off to get the cat off my new yoga mat and drink some tea in my yoga pants!
